An Integrated Inventory-Routing System for Multi-item Joint Replenishment with Limited Vehicle Capacity

چکیده
In this paper, we develop a mathematical programming approach for coordinating inventory and transportation decisions in an inbound commodity collection system. In particular, we consider a system that consists of a set of geographically dispersed suppliers that manufacture one or more non-identical items, and a central warehouse that stocks these items. The warehouse faces a constant and deterministic demand for the items from outside retailers. The items are collected by a fleet of vehicles that are dispatched from the central warehouse. The vehicles are capacitated, and must also satisfy a frequency constraint. Adopting a policy in which each vehicle always collects the same set of items, we formulate the inventory-routing problem of minimizing the long-run average inventory and transportation costs as a set partitioning problem. We employ a column generation approach to determine a lower bound on the total costs, and develop a branch-and-price algorithm that finds the optimal assignment of items to vehicles. We also propose greedy constructive heuristics, and develop a very largescale neighborhood (VLSN) search algorithm to find near-optimal solutions for the problem. Computational tests are performed on a set of randomly generated problem instances.

Considering Production Planning in the Multi-period Inventory Routing Problem with Transshipment between Retailers
Generally, the inventory routing problem occurs in a supply chain where customers consider the supplier responsible for inventory replenishment. In this situation, the supplier finds the answer to questions regarding the time and quantity of delivery to the customer as well as the sequence of customers in the routes. Considering the effect of production decisions on answering these questions, t...
متن کاملA Vehicle Routing Problem with Inventory in a Hybrid Uncertain Environment
Manufacturers, who re-supply a large number of customers, continually struggle with the question of how to formulate a replenishment strategy. The purpose of this paper is to determine the optimal set of routes for a group of vehicles in the transportation network under defined constraints – which is known as the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) – delivering new items, and resolving the invent...
متن کاملOptimal ordering quantities for substitutable deteriorating items under joint replenishment with cost of substitution
In this paper we develop an inventory model, to determine the optimal ordering quantities, for a set of two substitutable deteriorating items. In this inventory model the inventory level of both items depleted due to demands and deterioration and when an item is out of stock, its demands are partially fulfilled by the other item and all unsatisfied demand is lost. Each substituted item incurs a...
متن کاملOptimizing location, routing and inventory decisions in an integrated supply chain network under uncertainty
This study extends a mathematical model that integrates the location, allocation, inventory replenishment and routing decisions simultaneously. To cope with inherent uncertainty of parameters, we implement a continuous-time Markov process and derive the performance measures of the system. Using the obtained results, the problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programing model (MINLP)...
متن کاملCapacitated Two - Stage Multi - Item Productioni Inventory Model with Joint Setup Costs
We analyze a continuous-time, two-stage production/inventory system. In the first stage, a common intermediate product is produced in batches, and possibly stored. In the second phase, the intermediate product is fabricated into n distinct finished products. Several finished products may be included in a single production batch of limited capacity to exploit economies of scale. We propose a pla...
